Our Story

Phil and Trice love plants. So much in fact that the two retired nurses took this love and turned it into an adventure that would see them tending fragile cuttings of rare cacti and other plants to becoming a fully licensed stock nursery. The Cactorium got its start in a small section their backyard in the late 90’s. 25+ years later, there are hundreds of cacti spanning several spaces. Actually Phil is to blame. He moved to Humboldt County from Southern California in 1980 with a carload of cacti and kids. Skip to 1986 when Trice met Phil. By 1995 Phil and his plants had established residence and that was the beginning of our crazy obsession. The Cactorium began with intentions of supplying local landscapers and retailers with plants grown here in Humboldt County, CA. Although we have many cacti, the Echinopsis cacti are our most prolific. We have been growing E. pachanoi crested and monstrous varieties from seed for the last five years. Our cacti are acclimated to the weather we receive here in the rainy Pacific Northwest. With more than enough for our local needs, we’ve gone online to share our amazing plants and cuttings to the world!
